I cannot work out the man's surname from his signature. Brooley, Brosley, Brodley, Prooley.

If anyone can please let me know.

    Thank you.

Just spent a while looking at this and cannot get much further than you have. First initial could be a W and I concur with Broo or Broa, but not sure after that.
It looks like an L follows, rather than a D or even a K. Is it right to assume the flourish at the end is the tail of a Y or is just a flourish?
Checked the photographic search engines and nothing came up there.

I wonder if he'd be mentioned in the Desert Air Force book I have at home. I'm not sure how to remind myself.

I always found that tying a knot in my hanky worked :)

Pleased that you took it as it was intended. One has to be so careful these days.

I can be very touchy about some things but that was a good one.

I'll make myself a "to do after I get home" list.

I think it could be Broadey

    W. E. Broadley, to my eyes.

    Could be wrong.

Edit: some Googling has turned up hits for various Broadleys residing in Kent.

    Many thanks for your efforts

My thoughts were: Brooley, Proley, Prooley. Prosley and Grooley, none of which appear to be proper names; and, Brodley, Brosley, Rooley and Grosley which are proper names. Of these last surnames .only Maurice Rooley (161497) served in the RAF during WW2 but was not commissioned until 1944.

No hits for a Broadey serving with the RAF in the London Gazette. Many thanks though.

Can you tell us the details on the bottom right of his photo, is there a location?

Sorry, I should have mentioned it at the beginning. Paramount Studios, Alexandria. Egypt.

Coming back to this, finally - any idea which squadron?

This book has some useful tables... BUT NO INDEX. It's a crying shame, honestly.
