Saying hi, I'm a very experienced family history fanatic who has reached WW2 in his research and am petrified and lost as I've never really held an interest in WW2. I will be asking some very basic questions about quite a few topics.
Disappointing reply ? You asked and were given good advice ,your badges were identified and you were given some good advice regarding the service records I think from what you originally asked and the information you were prepared to share in your inquiry the response was (once again) fantastic from the members here ? Do not be disappointed be grateful Kyle
Oh I'm definitely not disappointed by the actions of the people of this forum but rather the implications the information had on my future researches
Do not give up after one attempt there`s more information on some units/soldiers than others Next time might be different? I noted a suggestion to post a name or some background on the soldier in question and I realise their will be a reluctance,by some,to post such details but it is true that those who post as much background as they can usually find someone on here can help? Local newspapers are a good example but to search you of course need a name or place Likewise ,and this does not refer to the question you asked, often a question is asked here and our band of helpful members get busy digging and spend long periods trying to source information and posting it on this forum or in a PM to be greeted by a "I knew all of that " reply . Discouraging the helper a little and hindering any future requests for information . Do not `wave the white flag` just come back and try again Kyle
Actually, I've changed my mind after thinking about it and I will have a couple of questions I'd love you to answer. Off to the relevant sections I go.
As you have been advised send off for the service records Without them you are making assumptions and possibly muddling the research path. By all means ask away but without more detail your end ,you will get generic answers Once you have the records you can then ask more questions here which will be answered in more detail. As you are aware there are a wealth of WW2 experts on this forum which you wont find anywhere else. Get a copy of military service records dont give up get the records and crack on regards Clive
