Sorry if this is the wrong thread but I’m not sure if anyone can help - I’m strugging to upload the image as the file is too large. Gardening and digging I was hitting against what I though was rock, now I know it was metal. I was pulling and twisting on something like a thigh pencil or slim branch until it came away from the piece it was attached to. And planted my shrub! I washed up the prong and it is pretty old metal, with something that looks like white crystallised granules inside. It appears as if there was a blue stamp of letters or numbers on the prong.
hope its not the gas pipe your still here so its not that pipe bomb (looks like the sort of tube that some kids used to make pipe bombs back in the late 60s)
The location might help. Some airfield areas had very interesting things buried under them when invasion was a possibility....
Thanks for your replies. It’s Eccles Manchester. Yes it was attached to something larger and I did struggle to pull it out.
Probably more mundane, it looks like a piece of corroded electrical conduit or a sacrificial anode from a hot water cylinder.
call the old bill and tell them you think you have found a ww2 bomb that way you will get it identified
