As I needed to look into war diaries of NW Europe campaign, I built myself a list similar to the ones from Drew. (It involved several several searches, some copy/paste and a touch of Excel to make it usable and remove duplicates)

Beware! This list is not complete. It includes ~5500 items, equivalent to 50% of the WO 171. There are random gaps everywhere, but probably enough items of each main unit to make it a convenient aid. I recommend to use filters or a pivot table to spot the unit you're interested in.

Must say many thanks again and again for your excel spreadsheets as TNA seems to making their search engines annoying again.

Hi there, You very kindly found the following information regarding my grandfathers unit war diary a few years ago (183 Field Company RE). I wondered if you have the information for these now?

WO 171/1580 183 Company 1944 Jan.- Apr., June- Dec.

    WO 171/5492 183 Company 1945 Jan.- June.

    Thanks :)

I know it`s probably very unlikely, but does anyone have any details of the specific convoy numbers contained inside the following files?

ADM 199/1027 WS, BM and MB convoys: reports 1943
ADM 199/1028 WS, BM and MB convoys: reports 1943
ADM 199/1029 WS, BM and MB convoys: reports 1943

I suspect I`m not alone in being driven mad by the number of such files which still aren`t fully indexed.

    Here`s hoping.

    Thank you

    Hi Drew/Andrea,

Do you know if TNA contain any information on Exhumation & re-burial of soldiers remains from the Anzio campaign area?

Specifically exhumation & re-burial reports for individuals with grid references of locations?

I think 26 Graves Registration unit were involved in this effort after the fighting had moved North away from the area.

I assumed this type of info would be held at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission archive.

    Regards

    Nigel
