I've been searching without joy for a copy of the following: Journal of the Royal Artillery 92, No. 1. (March 1965) Specifically the article entitled "Full Employment" by J. P. Ferry concerning 26 Field Regt's patrolling in the early emergency. I can't locate a copy for sale anywhere and wondered whether it graced the groaning shelves of any of the members here? If anybody can provide me with a copy of the text (or even sell me a copy of the journal), I'd be very grateful. Mods: apologies if this is in the wrong location.
James. In Cassino at the moment but if you email me I will see if the RA Historical Society have this when I get back to UK on Mon. Frank
WorldCat has a number of possible sources. If you are near one of the universities it may be worth checking if they allow access to the general public – many have schemes and are generally pretty approachable to genuine research requests. The British Library will give you access in person also and provides a remote delivery service which may be a bit pricey though. You could also try the Inter-library loan system – I’ve been able to obtain some pretty obscure stuff in the past. N.B. Your item will be offsite in most cases so you would need to pre-order it.
Hopefully Frank will be able to obtain a copy for you James. N.B. for future reference, WorldCat is an American tool that accesses library catalogues worldwide. If you skip to the end of my search for example you will find copies in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa - just change the location field as appropriate to prioritise those nearest to you.
Charley Are you still looking for this article? I have an extensive collection of Royal Artillery related books and magazines including numerous RA Journals. I can have a look and see if I have it and if I have, scan it for you. Phil
Very much still hoping to see it--and for that matter, anything from the 1948-50 period about R.A. units in Hong Kong--particularly 25 Field Regt. Thank you.
If you happened to see anything about the Archer in the 1948-50 range I would certainly be interested.
I'm chasing another article which cannot, it seems, be had for love nor money (especially with a pandemic raging): M.E.B. Groves, "The Royal Artillery and Hong Kong 1842 - 1976" Journal of the Royal Artillery, Vol.103, No. 2 (Sept. 1976). I'm going to try to contact op-ack , who was a great help last time, but if anybody has it to hand and can save him the trouble, I'd be most grateful.
Charley, On the basis the New Zealand Royal Engineers have copied all the Royal Engineers Journal onto the web, might it be worth checking the Royal Artillery equivalents in Australia, Canada and New Zealand?
I have checked all the NZ R.E. post-war ones, but couldn't find anything. The Journal of the Royal Artillery tends to publish more historical articles than contemporary articles and I don't know where I can consult the commonwealth R.A. publications--are any online that you know? Edit: have found op-ack 's address buried in the depths of my email account and am sending him a begging letter.
Charley - never looked. I found the NZ journal collection by looking for a specific issue. It is an assumption that the three nations would have them and might have years later, like the Kiwis, scanned them onto the Web. Have you tried the US Army Artillery Museum / Library, which from memory is at Fort Sill?
Hi, Does anyone know whether there is a way to search the Journal on-line for articles? I'm looking for Italy campaign articles. Regards Tom
First, the correct title is 'Journal of the Royal Artillery'. The only place in the UK with No.94 is the National Army Museum; it appears they have a complete run, although no index.Plus two other London universities, see: Item Display | Library Hub Second, I note WorldCat refers to nowt being online due to copyright. Oddly there appears to be no online index. There is a limited one (behind a paywall) for 1987-2006 via: Lancaster Index - Archive Schedule (Journal of the Royal Artillery) MPR does have an address for contact: Gunner Publications, Artillery Centre, Larkhill, Salisbury, Wiltshire SP4 8QT Tel: +44 (0)1980 634204 Email: gunner@hqdra.army.mod.uk There is a Royal Artillery Historical Society: Society Address: The RAHS Secretary, Royal Artillery Historical Society, Royal Artillery Institution, Artillery House, Royal Artillery Barracks, Larkhill, Salisbury, Wiltshire SP4 8QT
