Greetings all. This is my first post. I realise that this might be a bit of a long-shot, but I wonder if anyone might be able to help with any information on the above, or how I might be able to trace his service records. The only information that I can offer is his name; Albert Leonard Plumb, and his d.o.b. which is 21st August 1918. He was from Birmingham England, possibly Aston. Many thanks for looking.
You have what you need right there? The service records are only held by the MoD. you will need to apply to them Kyle
Thank you for your reply Mr. Jinks. If his name and d.o.b. is enough, I will do as you say. Thanks again and best regards.
Hello and welcome. Here is the link in case you don't have it Get a copy of military service records: Apply for the records of someone who's deceased - GOV.UK Lesley
Many thanks Lesley. After looking at the form, I notice that they seem to require a service number and a death certificate, neither of which I have access to. The gentleman was a cousin of mine, and I am not his next of kin, so I suspect that I might be falling somewhat short of requirements?
Just get a copy of the death certificate from the General Register Office if you can find which one it is. Someone may come along to help you with the reference for this so you can apply. They only cost about 9 or 10 quid. No you don't need his service number but you do need his FULL date of birth. The MOD can usually find records from this. (message sent to your inbox-it will come up as a red '1' next to your name)
Thank you very much Lesley. I should be able to get hold of his death certificate no probs. Your help is very much appreciated. Best regards.

No Kyle, that isn't him. I have him on Ancestry as "Death registered May 2004 aged 85 in Sandwell West Midlands, but many thanks to you for looking.
Thank you Tony56. His mother's maiden name was definitely Millward, and the death details are correct too. Thanks to your efforts it would seem that I now have his service number too. I am very much obliged to you. According to his sister, who is in her nineties, and prone to being a little " confused" at times, he was in the R.A. but at some point moved into some type of special forces, whatever that may mean. Many thanks once again for your help.
Nice to see you made it here from GWF and that you now have all you need to apply for his Service Records, which should give you the full details. Just ensure you ask for ALL records they may hold, just in case there is something "useful" they may hold. I hope you can find enough to help his wife know some more about her husband, it may help stir some old memories that will add more to the collective family history.
Thanks Kevin, and thanks once again to everyone for their input and help. It is all very much appreciated.
