    IMG_0121.JPG Hi
Can anyone decipher the following line? I think it says Sc CCR No.3 /
97885/6/A1 17/1/41. George Key was with 62coy AMPC at Craigmillar Scotland at this time but had been working with the Royal Artillery off and on. He transferred to the 3rd medium Regt RA at the end of that year. I don’t know if any of that is related.
    Thanks

    Hi Tracey

Better to scan and upload the whole of the sheet, it helps to see whats around the section you are wanting info on, you "get you eye in more easily"

    Thanks
    TD

PS correct rotation of the image helps too

Hmmm its dated 17-1-41 which is the day he was came back from leave, I'm wondering if its just an admin ref for his leave entitlement.
Its a code I've not seen before, and nothing is jumping out as to what it is

    Hi,

IMHO The queried line ought to be read in conjunction with the line immediately above it - précis is that he was to be paid War Proficiency Pay (backdated to 10th April 1940) as authorised by the text in the queried line on 17th Jan 1941

I’ve just had another look at the record and now that you have pointed it out I can see it is a two line entry.
    Thanks for that

It also helps if you hit the Full image instead of the Thumbnail when showing such fine detail. Example shown below.

It does help with people who have bad eyes. Not meaning to be funny here.

    Hi
When I joined a few days ago I was advised to load images as thumbnails which took up less space in the post and which members could open up fully if interested. Do members generally prefer a thumbnail or full image?
    Thanks

Hi Tracey, with service records I say go with full image. Most of the time the handwriting is shocking. It makes it so much easier & quicker to decipher the acronyms. On this, I'm sure most people would agree.. Give it a try & see what happens.

    Regards & good luck.
P.s. Welcome to the forum by the way.

I think the advice you received meant for you to upload the largest images you can (Maximum size: 2MB) and then post them as thumbnails. Each time you upload an image in the mesaage-posting box you are given the option to have it displayed as a thumbnail or as a full image. If you select the option to display as a thumbnail, users can click on those small images to expand them to full size.

    Edit: you've done this--no problem.

Charley, in my simple eyes its a case of hitting the full image. Not much to choose from! Whats the point of can click on the small images to expand them to full size? I can somewhat understand if any one is showing a shed load of War diaries, or pages of a Regimental history. I do have the War History of the Royal Pioneer Corps 39-45 By MAJOR E.H.RHODES-WOOD. Some info may be of use that I've seen of 62 Coy AMPC. Auxiliary Military Pioneer Corps.

I would be very interested in any information that you may have regarding 62 coy AMPC. I know that in 1939 George Key went with them to France but the coy war diary says they were evacuated from Boulogne on Vimiera but George was evacuated from Dunkirk. I understand that his section may have been attached to another Regt. If you have details of their time in France that would be helpful.
Also, George went with them to Longhope on Hoy, Orkney. George said he also went to Shetland but I don’t have any other information regarding this. The war diary extract of 62 coy is rather spare in detail. He seems to have been with them until 16 July 1942 when he was transferred to the 3rd medium Regt RA.
    Any information is gratefully received!

    Two reasons:

Large images don't display as well on small screens. Some users access the site via mobile devices.

As you say, multiple images can stretch posts and pages to awkward lengths and make them annoying to browse.

Charley, I may have not made myself clear here? Of a norm regarding books, I would not have a problem in thumbnail but when it comes to Service Records, its a lot clearer & easier to read. That's all. Fair point about your first reason.

Tracey, to be honest its quite a will since I read it, but you are quite welcome to have a copy. Has to how much info there is on 62 Coy i could not say? What I can say is its a recopy of the original that has been electronically converted. The guys have done a splendid job. It not often that I say that of reprints or the like. You may be aware that the original is still going for (YES £150.00).

I did some work a while back on a kind of relative who was in No1 Coy, which became No 10, & No 66. The War diaries was pretty good on detail. The only thing was, they were diabolical when it came to reading them.. It took me about 8-10 weeks work to transcribe them, & put them in a folder for my Aunt. In fact, that top chap called Charley:cool: put the transcribe diaries into a PDF document for me. I'm sure he'll remember. I do have a soft spot for the pioneers that were part of the B.E.F. The shovel men of the Army. In short, he went to France on the 16.9.39 & got back to Plymouth on the 19th June 40. Leaving St Nazaire on the 17th & picking up survivors of the Lancastria on the way.. 2700 men on board with no life belts. I will start a conversation with you so that we can exchange e-mail addresses & will send you the book. If you don't get much info out of it? At least you'll have decent copy of a rare book.
    Regards
    Stu.

I thought the £40 for a book on the 3rd medium Regiment RA was steep but I bought it because it had my Grandad George Key and his brother Albert listed in it. What was maddening is that I know my Grandma had a copy of this book but my brother took it to a charity shop with a load of other books! I would be interested in reading the digital copy of your book.
    Many thanks

Tracey, I'll make contact towards the weekend. Its in a PDF document. At least your brother will not be able to take it to a charity shop.
Gosh, that's bordering on criminal. I do hope the load of other books were not to do with military? Finding originals in good condition, & in good order is near on impossible these days.

    Regards
    Stu.

Doesn't matter whether you upload something as a thumbnail or full image.
Both can be zoomed in to identical levels of detail, depending on original image size.*
Can even be easier to zoom thumbnails to fit mobile device screens.
This button, top right of lightbox that opens on clicking thumbnail:

    Capture.JPG

(Image size, not file size - different things - Image size is size on screen, file size is storage space it takes up).

    Enough of this, though.
    Back to Tracey's query.

I misted the other thread that Tracey has going on the same subject. Not sure if you have seen it?

Enough of this has you have stated. I've sent Tracey a PDF document of the above book that i said in my post 12. I'm i missing something on the spoiler note? Adam, why is the colour of your text in grey scale?. You could have talked to me off thread.
I have offered some info to Tracey in a private e-mail. The nice lady has not yet got back to me. Was your post needed? Has for Tricky Dicky likes this. I don't find it funny. Tracey has done it in a full image on the other thread. Blimey, all this for asking a page to be shown in detail regarding a Service Record Page.

    Regards
    Stu.

Sorry for my tardiness in responding but going on holiday to Cornwall today and was busy packing last night. Thanks so much for the PDF it will give me something interesting to read on the journey down.
I thought I would start another thread because it was a different question even though both are asking for help with a service record. Perhaps it would be easier to upload all the pages and just generally ask for help.
    Regards
    Tracey
