Goes back to first visit to Vancouver in 1991. Bought a fluffy Moosehead cap which I wore around the pubs and bars getting lots of comments. Calls of "Hey, MOOSE!" across the road. And "Gee you ain't a Canadian are yer, eh?"
Wore it back at work for a laugh and name stuck.
Next visits to Canada kept buying Moose related items, including a birchbark moosecall.
On our wedding cake Mrs D made the bride and groom with the groom having a moosehead too.

[pedant mode]Surely she wasn't 'Mrs D' when she made the cake? [/pedant mde]

Though I don't really know what bohemian rituals the people of Wiltshire observe... so who knows...

Glad you paying attention. I thought about that but thought no-one would notice.
    OK then,
The FUTURE Mrs D made a groom with a moosehead for our wedding cake.

  9. My signature (and occassional avatar - though it's currently two Ansons making a baby Anson!) is Squadron Leader Mahinder Singh Pujji who flew in Euope and North Africa (one of the handful of Indian pilots who joined the RAF) as a fighter and fighter-bomber pilot (with 2 kills) during 1941 and 1942. He then transferred to the Indian Air Force and flew first on the NW Frontier before becoming a ground attack and recon pilot in Burma. He ended up doing at least three tours of duty and was awarded the DFC for his low-level recon work over the jungles of Burma in 1945.

After the war he became an airline pilot and now lives in Britain. A person who I've come to admire more and more as I read about him. I would love to meet him one day but I believe he is very frail now (well into his 80s).

    hi kyt,
i never knew about any indians serving in the RAF before. its really cool to find out that there were actually indian pilots there. do you have any more info about the other pilots. cheers mate.

ps - since this thread is about avatars, might as well explain mine. its a painting of a spit shooting down a bf-109 that i happened to find while browsing for some wallpaper. nothing significant to it really. just to illustrate my nerdiness for planes

CT, the RAF motto of 'Per Ardua Ad Astra' translates to 'Above Me The Stars'. I think. Can't recall the motto for Fighter Command, but the Motto for Bomber Command was 'Strike Hard, Strike Sure'. Or was it Strike Fast Strike Sure? Very rusty memory which has been destroyed by uni. Forgive me.

Fighter Commands motto was Offence Defence
    Bomber Command as Kitty stated
    Coastal Command was Constant Endeavour

Thanks Peter I have searched high and low to find that poem.

Sapper is the James Bond look-alike you?

Adam is that Fester lurking on your avatar - and the quote from the Bible?

I've shot myself in the foot haven't I. Now that I actually understand some of them, you are all going to change them? That said Kyt, Mr Pujji looks very handsome and distinguished (much nicer than two aeroplanes up to no good!!!)
    Regards to you all

    Not far off.

This week. I have mostly been bein'; 'The Great Beast', Aleister Crowley.
    Early 20th Century Occultist. 1875-1947.

I have a longstanding fascination with the man going back to childhood. "Do what thou will." etc.... possibly not a very 'nice' chap but most entertainingly shot away nonetheless.

I'm sure he won't last, I tend to change it every few months.

    Cheers,
    Adam.
