Anyone know where to look to find archive records regarding the US Army 130th Station Hospital during April 1945? I know it had been based in Swindon and moved to Camp Lucky Strike near Le Havre. I have 2 key questions I'm trying to answer:

    1. Did part of the 130th stay behind in the UK near Chislehurst?

    2. Is it possible to access admissions records (do such records even exist?) for a deceased British former POW who apparently passed through the 130th?

    Many thanks,
    Mark

    Hi Mark

Have you tried contacting this site?? Chiseldon Camp Swindon - history of an army base not forgotten

50 years on since the last soldiers left, we look back at the Swindon army base which helped win two world wars - and welcomed the first American GIs to Britain.

The hospital closed in May 1945, and once peace was declared, the camp quickly became virtually deserted.

On 15 July 1945, the 130th Station Hospital, then at Camp Lucky Strike, Le Havre, France, was assigned to the 7th Army for duty with the Army of Occupation. It arrived at Heidelberg, Germany, on 1 August 1945, and proceeded to Rohrbach, Germany, a small village about three miles south of Heidelberg

From the above I would deduce that
    May 1945 Left Swindon
    June 1945 Arrived Le Harve
15 July 1945 Left Le Harve
    01 Aug 1945 Arrived Heidleberg

That's a good idea, TD. I did stumble across that website a while back but completely forgot about it. I'll give that a try.

In the meantime, I'll continue digging on the US side of the Pond in hopes someone can point me to any surviving records that may help.

The movements and history of the 130th Station Hospital are pretty obscure prior to the Heidelberg era. There's plenty of info about the Hospital while in Germany but I could find precious little prior to that...and, naturally, it's the earlier period that interests me.

Clearly I need to do more digging but maybe someone on the Forum has some other ideas of places I can look.

    Cheers,
    Mark
