    Assume the "Machine Carbines .45 inch" are Thompsons? A firearm with a 10.5" barrel is a pretty short carbine. Was there some aversion to calling them submachine guns or machine pistols? Too German sounding?

    The same term was used for the Sten on WE tables and other documents, though in this case does refer to the Thompson. I don't know if it was a deliberate choice to avoid comparison with the machine pistol term of the Germans, the US went for the now universal title of submachine gun.

    Do we suppose that R.I.A.S.C. War Establishments for this unit type were identical?

    To be fair I haven't checked it properly. I said no just because I know the Force K6 never had Thompson's in 1940.
