Hi ,hope everything one is OK I am trying to gain as much information as l can about Edward as possible ,he was with the 15th/19th Kings Hussars ,East Riding. Edward was killed on the 26th of May 1940 ,however l do not know how and l really want to find out. My name is Mark Watson, Edward was my great Uncle I know where he is buried in France and l will go to visit ,can not say when but it will be this year. I have joined a few sites now and been led in this direction ,will also try national archives ,also as suggested. Regiment diary would possibly help ?l hope If there is anybody who can help ,point me in the right direction, l would be very grateful Kind regards Mark

Hello Tricky Dicky, thanks my mistake it was 26th of May,everything that is there l have lam trying to find out more information about how Edward died. Regards Mark
I guess you have - what about his name?? It might also be worth posting, if you wish, a copy of his service record, it allows members to see his history in context. TD
Hi TD, this is a problem l have searched his service record but so far no results so lam struggling any suggestions? Regards Mark
OK His service records are not held at The National Archives, they are held by the MOD in Glasgow - the application forms are here - Request records of deceased service personnel - GOV.UK you can add the CWGC information regarding his death instead of an actual death certificate. I assume there is no next of kin still living (this would reduce the cost) otherwise the service will cost you £30. TD
Hi CWGC INFORMATION IS THE DAY HE DIED THAT'S IT,no living next of kin £30 charge l think is a bit rough as lam family and Edward his life ,however if it helps to get the information together hopefully it will be worth it. Than you l will apply for it and post it when l have it. I was told national archives might have regiment diary that might help ?what do you think ,what orthopaedic a try Again thank you
Mark The MOD dept that deals with service records have a duty of care to the soldiers whose documents they look after, so they need to make sure of certain facts. If he or his wife were still alive then they could apply for them for free. However for other it costs a few pounds, which is used I guess to maintain the staffing levels and conditions that allows all of us to have access to these records. Once you have his service record and we are certain about which regiment(s) etc he was in then War Diaries is the next move. We also have several members here who are BEF experts and will be able to help answer many of your questions. Patience is the key TD
Hello Mark A few members on here copy war diaries form a reasonable rate. I have dropped a message to one of our 1940 experts who might be able to give further advice regards Clive
Hi Drew 5233 thank you very much for sharing this ,it is much appreciated, unfortunately does not reveal to much to me in regards of how Edward died which l need to know . Where should l look from here ,would the cause of death be on Edwards service records? Again thank you for sharing
Mark The War Diaries are useful but for the details you are after then really only officers names are mentioned, normally all NCO's are generally referred to as 'OR's' or Other Ranks. As Edward was a Trooper it is very unlikely he would be mentioned by name unless he was involved in an heroic act. For other ranks though the diaries do provide a point in time and geography as to where your relation was at the time of his death. Further research may throw up personal diaries from those that were there, as previously mentioned though the first step must be to obtain his service record to start you off in the right direction, for example the records show his Regiment at enlistment was 15th/19th King's Royal Hussars RAC, so the question is was he with them at the time he was killed, he may have been posted elsewhere, only his records will tell you that. TD
A CWGC search for his regt deaths on that day shows 3 WISEMAN, EDWARD BENJAMIN Rank:TrooperService No:321908Date of Death:26/05/1940Age:21Regiment/Service:Royal Armoured Corps 1st East Riding Yeomanry. An assumption from the above and reading the War Diary that Drew uploaded is perhaps these 3 were killed at the end of the day during the "intensive air bombardment" TD
