see the EDIT button just to the left of the MultiQuote & Quote buttons at bottom right of your posts.

Click Edit then Use Full Editor.
Edit button is to left of Multiquote button.
Thread title appears in it's own box that let's you edit it.

You can use that to edit out your posts & change thread titles.
    You cannot delete your posts.

I never switched it on, as the delete system on IPB is so much more harsh than on the previous software. Nothing's reversible/recoverable.
Deleting a first post can take down entire threads, which'd be somewhat irritating to people who'd added something useful.

I'll add that irriversible delete thing to the list of 'Why we're getting a tiny tad tired of IPB'.

which you can do by editing your posts.
Just delete anything you don't wish to be on here anymore & replace it with anything you like even just a full stop .

Someone very kindly cleaned up one of my deletes the other evening.

Whilst we're whinging about the board, can anything be done about the US Englizh (They spell everything with a 'z', don't they ?) spellchecker ?

At least this one lets me mention analysis. To most US spellcheckers, it's a suggestion that I wish to discuss uphill gardening !

    Do we have a spellchecker?
    Mine's the browser interfering.
Browsers are usually set to default us spellings.

Thanks, Adam. I feel like a right plonker now. I set up Firefox correctly in the beginning but at some point it has deleted the British English dictionary...which, by the way, doesn't recognise 'plonker' (or should it be with a capital letter ?)

Mine did that too. Does it every update & I can never remember how to change it back... until all the Zs start to really wind me up.

My youngest child once came home from school using 'Zee' for 'Zed'... One of the exceptionally rare times I've ever become one of that dreary crowd that would like a word with the teacher.
(Several years later, my other half tells me there's an overt effort in primary education to defend the British pronunciation of Z.)

WG, the point is; you can indeed delete anything permanently still.
An edit by a user is un-retrievable and your choice (unless we ran site backups and lost potentially thousands of other posts. We're not going to run site backups), it was nice to be able to retrieve spam deletions on the old system for comparing styles of spambots etc. though. Also handy for buggers like Chris who liked to edit the whole context of a post so it says something different to what was originally posted. Can no longer check that sort of shenanigans.

The reason I haven't switched on full user delete is that thread thing:
Say a user started a general thread like the massive 'What are you reading' one.
If Gage, who started it, deleted his post; by selecting certain options he could then wipe out thousands of other people's innocuous or informative posts on that thread. Not good.
Want to kill a post - edit it. We cannot retrieve them. They are gone.
Honestly, most forums don't even offer the long-term edit ability we do.

    I don't at WW2F.

I don't care for wankers who join and then get upset when the other subscribers don't agree with their deeply-held, but bizarre, beliefs and go to deleting whole thread full of posts after getting their panties in a wad.

I quite like the long term edit facility. I regularly spot typos, spelling mistakes and dubious sentence construction in my posts and see no crime in making corrections. It also allows the easy replacement of failed image links.

I've got a motorcycle forum using IPB......and I recently upgraded to v4. Huge difference to v3......particularly the Admin area.

Problem is a lot of the addon modules haven't caught up yet.......and it's still buggy. But at least it's mobile responsive which eliminates the need for Tapatalk.

    Hi Wendy,
I run it and I remember us having conversations, via PM here and/or email, about the photos. I recall sending you links to the page at the time for your approval.
    STALAG XVIIIA, WOLFSBURG, AUSTRIA

There are no longer contact details as the website is essentially hanging on by a thread. As I've sadly had to explain to others, incl Rob for whom I created a RA page, I can't edit the site as the software is no longer supported. I tried a few times to sort it but it became clear that any more tinkering about would either corrupt further pages or cause it to crash completely.

If you don't recall giving permission and still wish me to remove the page, I will of course try and find a way to delete the entire website.
    Regards
    Diane
