I have just been watching a This is Your Life episode from 1982, featuring Douglas Bader. Same year he died. I narrowly missed meeting him that year, sadly. Anyway, link below. Enjoy!
Good to see these old memories. Douglas Barder, the original Mr Marmite. I also met him with my Father on a Golf course at Effingham during a pro-am tournament. Regards, Nick

Nice to watch this, not just for Douglas Bader, but the programme as a whole, fine memories, never the same once Eamonn died.
At least this programme has survived. Recordings of many of the programmes from the earlier series of 'This is Your Life', involving key figures from the WW2 era, have not survived, although there may be written transcripts available.
It's sad to think that just about everybody in that programme has now passed away. I think Bader himself passed away later that same year, and Stanford Tuck in 1987. "Johnnie" Johnson lasted until well into the 2000s, but never will we see their like again...
Excellent programme and I really enjoyed it. I've read "Flying Start" the memoir of Hugh Dundas, who was a guest on the show. One of the better RAF memoirs of WW2 and well worth a read.
Yes, I've read "Flying Start" too, and you're right, it's excellent! "First Light" by Geoffery Wellum is also well worth a read.
What a fantastic interview. I’m so glad this thread popped up in my feed so that I could watch it. I have to say he comes off very well here.
