Just a query .... what sort of timescale am I expecting to wait between mailing my request for service records to actually receiving them?

    Cheers,

Anything from 8 weeks to six months  . When they cash your cheque you will know you've probably got to the top of the pile.

    Dan,

It has improved lately, back in 2007 I had to wait 10 months for my grandfather's papers.

    Good luck.

Hi Dan, I applied for my Father's in 2011, it took 3mths. So it must depend on the time of year and the volume of the requests I quess.
    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for all the replies.

And that is the same as me veronicad.

I have filled in every box on the form correctly including service number etc. And I've included death and marriage certs as proof of relationship between the serviceman and his next of kin who is applying for the records.

I think I may still have the record. Application sent recorded delivery on the 30th April 2013. Track and trace recorded it as delivered on the 1st May. Letter confirming receipt of application and including a note warning of potential delays was sent from the records office and dated 8th May.

A letter with my fathers records enclosed and dated 14th May was received a few days later.

In an earlier phone call to Glasgow, they had indicated that applications by servicemen's widows would be prioritised.

depends on time of year. Last year due to anniversary of WW1 I know they had a lot higher then average requests.
i get them a lot for people, and it's been between 3 weeks and two months. Average about 6 weeks.
As mentioned on this forum, if your cheque has been cashed watch out for the post man....

About 3 weeks for me as well. I got the letter warning of a possible delay a week before it arrived.

It is all in the luck of the draw.
I hope that you are lucky and receive the record soon.
    Good luck with your research.

Received a letter today with apologies stating that due to a very high volume of urgent welfare requests on behalf of former soldiers, family interest enquiries are taking longer. They will write to me in due course. So the wait begins.

I recently received two sets of records in less than six weeks. I think they're doing an excellent job lately.

Astonished to receive my father-in-laws records today especially after the apologies and three weeks after applying.

Same here. Very impressed with current turnround times.

14/09/15 - Application sent, 25/09/15 - usual acknowledgement, 06/10/15 - records posted by MOD, 10/10/10/15 - records received. Therefore 4 weeks turnround - which was a lot less than expected.
