David, This is David Andrade. From my faded memory he was from Hawaii and was part of my rigging team.

No I have not and I really must do that. We have talked about flying up there but never got round to it.

When I crewed one of the rigging ships, I had the revetment in the foreground as shown in this picture. Furthest from the communications building....

Here is an exhibit that would be relevant to you:

If you flew up, you could easily do it in a day. It is maybe half as large as the Naval Air Museum at Pensacola NAS. Heck, I suspect you could do it in a day if you drove.

Jeff I have checked and we cannot fly in to Cairns Field at Fort Rucker, it's military. The closest airport is at Dothan 14 miles away so if flew there we would be stuck for ground transportation. Looks like a road trip needs planning!

It would be nice if it was open to civilian air traffic. Even though the airport is not on the main part of Rucker, you could practically walk through Daleville to the museum, since the museum is right at the Daleville gate.

It won't be a fun drive. There is no easy way to get from your area to Rucker. US 84 is not a good road. I'll bet your GPS will try to bring you across on I-10, then north on 55 to Andalusia and 84 the last 30 miles or so. FL 79 to AL 167 is not a bad road at all, if you want to use it to go through Enterprise and use that gate.

Here are a few of the pictures that I made on my visit there back in August, posted at WW2F. -----> Army Aviation Museum
