    Circumstances: Not Known

    Position of Hit: Through the open lid of the Co-Driver's hatch at its inner (upper) edge, and then through the sloping front of the casing over the 0.30 Browning on the right hand side of the turret. Hole through the hatch lid 45 mm. diameter. Triangular hole through the mounting of roughly 25 mm. sides.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: Splash marks on the Browning. The hatch lid was clearly open when it was hit. No internal damage.

    Remarks: Tank seen. It had no Regimental signs on it, and ownership could not be traced.

    Fate of Crew: Not Known.

    Position of Hit: Penetration through side wall of left sponson behind forward sponson ammunition bin.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: Tank completely burnt out.

    Remarks: Tank seen. It had Co-Driver's compartment ammunition removed and replaced by a Co-Driver and an extort wireless.

    Fate of Crew:
    Commander: Dismounted
    Driver & Co-Driver: Unhurt
    Gunner: Wounded. a) compound fracture lower ⅓ of left tibia and fibula not yet united, 1 October 1945. X-rays showed 20, 0 - 50 mgm F.B's; 7, 50 - 250 mgm F.B's; 1, ¼ - 1 gm F.B.; 1 , 1 - 5 gm F.B.; b ) multiple wounds right leg and knee involving anterior tibial artery. X-rays showed 25, 0 - 50 mgm F.B's; 2, 50 - 250 mgm F.B's. Still in hospital 1 October 1945. Final medical Category Not Known.
    Operator: Wounded. Sole of right foot from which an F.B. stuck in oscalcis, was removed at operation. RTD 4/52. Category A.1.

    Other tanks involved in same incident:

    Circumstances: Stationary in village when fired on by infantry armed with hollow charge weapons, who made several hits on the front of the hull, none of which penetrated. The crew baled out and the tank was then fired at by an S.P. gun. Turret at 1 o'clock.

    Position of Hit: a) 76 mm. diameter A.P. penetration into right final drive; b ) partial A.P. penetration of front of hull to left of hull machine gun mounting; c) partial A.P. penetration of front of hull in front of Driver; d) A.P. scoops on left sprocket; e), f), g), h) and i) three A.P. scoops of front of hull one side, and one on front of turret; k) 45 mm. diameter H.C. penetration of left side of hull below sponson, between rear and middle bogie suspensions.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: No major internal damage. No fire.

    Remarks: Tank seen. The front of the hull was covered with track plates when the tank was first fired at, but these were subsequently knocked off.

    Fate of Crew: Unhurt. Crew baled out after the first two or three H.C. hits.

    Circumstances: Recce. Troop tank which went too far ahead and was lost. Turret found at 11.30 o'clock.

    Position of Hit: a) penetration through rear of turret about 90 mm., exit 80 mm. diameter at corner junction of front roof, and right side of the turret; b ) scoop through the base of the 0.3" Browning mounting by the side of the Commander.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: Crew compartment completely burnt out. Engine apparently undamaged.

    Remarks: Tank seen. No detailed information since crew were captured.

    Fate of Crew: Unhurt. Probably not in tank when it was penetrated.

    Circumstances: At IPRUMP, a few miles South of BREMEN. Tank stationary. Turret 11 o'clock.

    Position of Hit: Penetration through side wall of turret on operator's side.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: Immediate fire

    Remarks: Tank not seen. Information from Squadron Leader and Driver, who got out through Co-Driver's hatch, since 75 mm. gun barrel was blocking his own.

    Fate of Crew:
    Driver & Co-Driver: Unhurt
    Commander: Killed. Body disintegrated by explosion of tank.
    Gunner: Burned and wounded; a) phosphorus burns left arm and back; b ) small fragment wound behind left ear. Healed in a few days. At Convalescent Depot 11 September 1945. Final category Not Known.
    Operator: Killed. Body disintegrated by explosion of tank.

    Circumstances: Travelling along road near HASELUNNE. Cause of damage Not Known, thought that H.C. projectile may have hit Commander, or grenade had been thrown into tank.

    Position of Hit: None found by Regiment.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: Fire commenced at once, and proceeded to burn out the tank completely.

    Remarks: Tank not seen. Information from Squadron Leader.

    Fate of Crew:
    Commander: Killed inside
    Gunner: Burned, and later killed outside by small arms fire.
    Operator: Trivial wounds (peppering of face when in tank). Wounded by small arms fire, after getting out.
    Driver: Unhurt in tank, killed outside by small arms fire.

    Circumstances: Tank moving at about 5 m.p.h. through the village of OSTERLINGEN. Turret at 12 o'clock.

    Position of Hit: Penetration into left forward sponson ammunition bin, through the quick fix armour from left side.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: Tank caught fire and exploded almost at once.

    Remarks: Tank not seen. Information from Squadron Leader.

    Fate of Crew:
    Commander: Burnt. a) Phosphorus burns hands and face, worse on the left side; b ) trivial flesh wound left calf. RTD 13/52. Category B. 6/12.
    Gunner: Killed. Body disintegrated.
    Operator: Burnt. Severe phosphorus burns face, neck and both hands and knees. Deformity of hands due to scarring and requiring plastic treatment. Still in hospital 1 November 1945. Final Category Not Known.
    Driver: Killed. Body disintegrated.
    Co-Driver: Killed. Body disintegrated.

    Position of Hit: Shot from right rear scooped away the whole thickness of the lower rear corner of the quick-fix armour on the right side of the turret, which was not penetrated.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: Co-Driver hit in head by the shot, and Driver hit in head by fragments. Turret ring damaged.

    Remarks: Tank seen. Information from Driver. Co-Driver and Driver were riding with their heads out. Neither wore a steel helmet.

    Fate of Crew:
    Turret Crew: Uninjured.
    Driver: Wounded. Scalp, one large laceration and a number of smaller ones. F.B. removed in hospital. RTD 352. Category A.1.
    Co-Driver: Killed. Severe head wounds.

    Fate of Crew: Presumed unhurt since all casualties in the Regiment were accounted for.

    Commander: a) flesh wounds both calves; b ) left foot (from which a superficial F.B. of unknown size was removed; c) left buttock. Discharged 24/52. Category E.
    Gunner: Superficial Wounds; a) left elbow, and b ) thigh. The former involved the ulnar nerve. Still in hospital 3 October 1945.
    Operator & Driver: Killed
    Co-Driver: Not in tank

    Position of Hit: a) penetration obliquely through the rear of the wireless bulge just above its lower edge; b ) penetration through the side of the hull opposite the clutch compartment. Exact positions of penetrations Not Known.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: a) went across the turret and dented the far side; b ) damage caused Not Known. Fire confined to turret.

    Remarks: Tank not seen. Information from Brigade workshops and from the Squadron Officers.

    Fate of Crew: Whole crew killed, probably by shot a) as b ) did not penetrate the crew compartment.

    Fire Damage: Confined fire.

    Other tanks involved in same incident:

    Circumstances: Second tank in a column crossing a canal outside HENGELO. Turret at 12 o'clock.

    Position of Hit: a) scoop on the bracket for the .50 Browning mounting on the roof of the turret; b ) scoop on the base of the 17-pounder barrel; c) penetration 10 mm. in diameter through a track plate welded on to the front of the hull, and then through the glacis plate opposite the Driver.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: Turret and front compartments were burnt out. The Driver was killed, probably hit by the jet from shot c).

    Remarks: Tank seen. Details about the crew were uncertain, but it is likely that the injuries they received were burns, as it is known that the Gunner died of severe burns.

    Fate of Crew:
    Commander: Slightly wounded (?burns) P.O.W.
    Gunner: Died of Wounds. Severe burns face and all limbs.
    Operator: Slightly wounded (?burns) P.O.W.
    Driver: Killed.

    Other tanks involved in same incident:

    Circumstances: Outside BIENEN on the night of the Rhine crossing. Was reversing down a dyke after coming under 20 mm. fire, when hit. Turret at 11 o'clock when seen (see below).

    Position of Hit: Penetration through the rounded top of the turret in front of the Operator's periscope, making an oval hole 100 x 75 mm.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: The tank was burnt out and "exploded", so that it was not not possible to trace the path of the projectile. The Operator could have been hit by the shot.

    Remarks: Tank seen. The turret had been blown off the ring and displaced to the right about a foot, so that its orientation may have been altered after the strike.

    Fate of Crew:
    Commander, Gunner, Driver and Co-Driver: Unhurt.
    Operator: Killed.

    Circumstances: Moving into CLOPPENBURG, was fired at from the first floor of a house. Turret found at 12 o'clock.

    Position of Hit: Penetration 25 mm. diameter through the top of the left hand side of the turret in front of and above the revolver port.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: Inside diameter of hole 16 mm. Jet appears to have gone across the turret and hit the opposite side, above the Commander's seat. The turret and front compartments had been burnt, but not the engine. The Commander and Operator might have been hit by the jet.

    Remarks: Tank seen.

    Fate of Crew:
    Commander and Operator: Killed
    Gunner: Superficial wound face, with injury to right eye. Multiple minute F.B's superficially in face. Discharged hospital in 16/52. Category E.
    Driver and Co-Driver: Unhurt.
