Given some 'queries' that have turned up in our email inbox over the last few months, some people seem to be occasionally confusing us with another site.

So, it seems sensible to make a little announcement that people might hopefully notice before contacting us:

This Site (WW2Talk .com) has no association, affiliation, or any other connection with the website: 'Forces War Records .co.uk'.

Their advertising sometimes shows up in our Google Ads bar (we have no control over Google's ads), and I know of one member here who is involved with the running of that site. We also both happen to be mostly Green in colour... That is all.

We are not a pay site, never have been, and have absolutely no intention of becoming so.
If you're contacting us about payment issues - you're contacting the wrong site.

Please direct all queries regarding them to their own email/contact system.

    Cheers,
    ~A

    Admin - WW2Talk.com.

It seems a strange thing that there are people around who would be prepared to pay good money to obtain information freely available elsewhere in the public domain from a website .... ?

I am just bumping this thread as one member who has contacted us doesnt seem to be able to read my emailed replies.

It's not us you need to contact , please talk to your Bank about it, not us.
    Cheers.

In reply to a couple of emails I've received via the admin email account.
May I just mention publicly that....

NO, we will not help you register with Forces War Records as they are NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH US.

I hope that is clear enough.
    Thank you.

Some of us are limited as to what we can obtain. I do as much as I can, with as much help as I can get, but have still obtained information from FWR that I have been unable to get from other sources.

So for some of us, paying for access to information is the only way.

    VERY SUBTLE:rolleyes:

Yes I can CONFIRM THAT WWIITALK HAS NO association, affiliation or connection with the website "FORCES WAR RECORDS."

Yes our advertising shows up in the Google Ads bars, though so do many other websites, like Gumtree, Findmypast etc etc..!!! This is not controlled by WWIITalk.

So please would any queries be directed to the site of "Forces War Records" and not the staff/Admin of WWIITalk.
You can contact us through our own site or email us through our on-line contact support team

I hope that we can clear this misunderstanding up.

Thank you Mark and I hope you enjoy the services of Forces War Records.

FWR offer free searches on all the databases held on our website of "Forces War Records". To make a free of charge search you do not even need to register. This allows searchers to see what records are held of names along with enough detail of regiment/unit and service for them to decide the likelihood of the record selected being one that they wish to view more details of. Also offered are other services free of charge, these are; selected datasets –shown on the home page these are currently; Free POW search–this covers our Japanese Prisoner of war records database Free Medieval search –this is our 1350-1450 database of the medieval and Normandy garrison records. These are completely free of charge, allowing unlimited access to the entire set of information contained. Glimpses of the Historic documents ‘Library’ may also be seen –a cover and some selected pages from the vast array of documents & publications in our extensive collection.

Yes I work for Forces War Records (no connection to this site), though I come on this great Forum off WWIITalk to share my interest, passion and hobby for all things history related to WWII history, genealogy and collecting militaria. I find talking to like-minded people a great way to extend my general knowledge on this subject and learn more from you all.

Just a question re your site.

You seem to be charging for data that is from the CWGC database. How is that possible?

I think all of the genealogy core sites pick casualty records as a base for their databases per se?
This seems to make sense to me as these are the easiest records to obtain firstly and add a good deal of verifiable information.
i.e. I went on military-genealogy.com and they have whole sections which have got to be identical to the free stuff?
In fact the vast majority of their data seems to be a straight transcription of CWGC stuff?
    They charge for that too.

I think to be fair to Forces records they at least have added some extras and the casualties only appear to be a small part of what they offer?

Last time I looked at their site they were charging £30 for medal citations which with a bit of work, the Army ones can be downloaded for for free or £3.50 with even less work from the National Archives website.

You do work for them, don't you? Or at least the Umbrella 'Reunited' site.
'You're' certainly posting here from the same IP address as 'White1'. And then there's this:
PITA - Forces ReUnited spamming - PPRuNe Forums

Bit of a sock-puppet-ish theme here of site workers pretending to be neutral observers/reviewers isn't there?
Thread on Arrse where a familiar sounding username popped up to support FWR, same username (not dissimilar to one here) popping up on other forums, reviews & blogs in defence while claiming to just be a user? Youtube video with several usernames leaving supportive/positive/defensive comments having apparently joined Youtube a few days before just to comment on one video?

Thing is, chap/s; most of us weren't born yesterday, and the Internet leaves traces. People talk to each other.

I've no interest in attacking another site in a similar field. I firmly believe it's a big old Internet, and we're not here to make money anyway so 'competition' in a commercial way is meaningless to us, but strangeness like the above does you no favours when by definition your target audience is reasonably intelligent.

Very Sorry. but dual registrations are not allowed here by anyone trying to trick our chaps.

    LesCM19 "...lets rock!"

It's just called providing a service.
I could do my own car maintenance for no labour outlay but I choose to avoid crawling around on a windswept driveway for 4 hours when I can pay a tradesman £30 to do it in an hour. It's just about what you think is value for money for the service provided or perhaps an unawareness of how easy the task actually is...if you know how. Nice work if you can get it I suppose!
Then again there are certain board members who do searches and so on at very reasonable or no cost for the good of the military family community...
