Does anyone know of a memorial in Italy, roll of honour book or other info online about italian partisans who died in the war? I young man of Italian parents from my home town was stuck in Italy at the outbreak of war and became a partisan fighter. He was caught in 1944 and shot by the gestapo. He is on my home towns memorial but not doesn't qualify for CWGC, not without significant paper support anyway. As far as I'm aware there's no family left in the town, I think he was an only child. So i am wondering if there's any more information about him elsewhere for people like him or if his name appears on a memorial in Italy? (from Arbroath WW2 Roll of Honour) Cheers, Derek.

On his memorial stone it says VITTIME DELL’ODIO FRATRICIDA IL 1° NOVEMBRE 1944 QUI IMMOLAVANO PER LA PATRIA LA LORO FIORENTE GIOVINEZZA I PARTIGIANI CARINI CARLO di anni 21 BRUSCHI ALDO di anni 21 A PERENNE E GLORIOSA MEMORIA I GENITORI POSERO Victims of fratricidal hatred on 1 November 1944 at this spot Partisans Carlo Carini, aged 21, and Aldo Bruschi, aged 21, gave their young lives for their country. In everlasting and glorious memory by their parents. The website says that "On 31.10.44 the inseperable companions [Aldo] Bruschi and Carlo Carini were on an assignment on the San Giorgio-Piacenza road when they were attacked by a superior force. They did not flinch but defended themselves until finally they were overcome. They were taken to Piacenza prison and identified as Partisans and at dawn on 1 November 1944 they were executed by firing squad on the road to Sant Antonio. Carlo Carini faced death with the same serene composure and fortitude which he had shown since his arrival in Italy in the distant 1938.

I note that the newspaper report says that he was executed by a Gestapo firing squad. I think this is extremely unlikely. Italian Partisans were generally executed in public by the SS or by regular infantry Wehrmacht units under Kesselring's general orders, or by Republican Fascist Units, usually by a firing squad or by hanging. The Gestapo never had rifles, they were shadowy figures in civilian clothes; murders they committed (and there were many) were usually carried out with a shot in the back of the head in some cellar.

Hi, I am researching a soldier who was KIA in Piacenza on 18 Jan 1944, he was an escaped POW who was possibly fighting with local partisans. Do you know how many Italian partisans were killed on the 18th Jan 1944 and if they were also in the Piacenza region. It is possible he was murdered by the Germans along with them ? many thanks, Rick
