Geoff, I have Sgt L.R.B. Lee 1212863 (RAF, VR) , down as a survivor from this crash.

An uncle of mine saw the aircraft fly over their land as it went down on the target moored off Boa Islands Dreenan shore.

Attached Sgt, Sherry and the watch tower which still stands watch over the area on which FP193 crashed and a memorial stone three miles NE of Omagh marking the location of the crash of FP239 on 30/12/42.

    Thanks James.

I thought so but needed to confirm. The info I had listed him as dying and only three survivors.

Interestingly there was another "Bagley" killed on the same aircraft.

    F/Sgt. J.S.Liddle (Navigator) RAF.
    Sgt. C.W.Aldridge, (Navigator) RAF.
    Sgt. B.Bagley, (Airgunner) RAF

    Cheers

    Geoff

Bagley is not a name you see every day of the week and as you say Geoff , two on the one crew.
Sadly some of the crew were not recovered until some months later, poor Sgt. Sherry being one. :poppy: :poppy:

    Serial number: DV 772

    Unit: 7 Op Training RAF

    Summary:

On the 21st July 1942, Wellington DV772 took off from RAF Stone, on a non-operational
day training flight of circuits and landings and low level flying in the low flying area over
the sea. The aircraft crashed at 1610 hours some 200 yards north east of the Hotel Giants,
Causeway, Antrim, Northern Ireland, and the crew of two were killed.
The aircraft was seen to fly inland over the Giants Causeway towards Bushmill and then
turn outwards towards the sea. The aircraft crashed near Giants Causeway hotel just
before the Clifton. Low cloud to 100/700 feet prevailed. Horizontal visibility was 15/20
miles. The Pilots were acting against orders flying inland. The cause of the accident was
obscure, but it was considered to be probably an error of judgement on the Captains part.

    Unit: No 17 Group RAF

    Summary:

On the 18th October 1943, Anson N5372 took off at approx 1940 hours to carry out a
night non-operational navigation B3 exercise. The aircraft crashed at 2115 hours in
Ballycastle, County Antrim, North Ireland. Two of the crew were killed and two injured.
The Pilot who survived the crash, later stated ; “On the last leg of the exercise, the
aircraft was flying at 2,400 feet. It was however eleven miles to the starboard of track, a
fact not known to the crew. I decided to descend to 2,000 feet to avoid another aircraft.
We approached Knocklayde from the downwind side of the mountain, and the wind was
150 degrees at 35/40 kms per hour. There would have been an extensively strong down
draft as we approached the mountainside. After the aircraft struck Knocklayde, SOS
procedures were carried out and preparations were made for a ditching.”

off Loch Foyle. The aircraft crashed at 1600 hour one mile east of Limavady and Flt Sgt
Walsh was killed, and the remainder were injured.
The accident was considered due to the inexperience of the Instructor and the sudden
arrival of frontal conditions while the aircraft was in the circuit area. The Pupil Pilot lost
sight of the ground and struck high ground in making too wide a circuit. He was not held
    to blame for the accident.

    Unit: 7 Op Training RAF

    Summary:

On the 28th November 1943, Wellington DV664 took off on a non-operational daytime
bombing practice, and crashed at 1220 hours 100 yards north east of the Strand, Port
Ballintrae, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. All the crew lost their lives.
Eye witness reported that the aircraft bombed the target on a low level bombing drop, and
then turned to starboard at a height of approx 200 feet. On completing the turn the aircraft
dived directly into the sea after the aircraft had straightened up. The accident occurred
during daylight with strong winds and heavy seas. Had the accident been due to stalling
in the turn, it was thought the aircraft would have gone in one wing first. There was
insufficient evidence as to the cause of the crash, but it was considered probable that the
    Pilot stalled the aircraft.

    Unit: ATTD 59 SQN RAF

    Summary:

Liberator FL990 took off from RAF Ballykelly for an anti submarine patrol on 19th June
1944, and set course from Inishtrahull. About five minutes after take off the aircraft hit
high ground at Inishowen Head and burst into flames The high ground was covered with
cloud base down to 900 feet, although the cloud base at the drome was about 1500 feet,
and the aircraft was seen to climb up to about this height after take off.

Within minutes of taking off from Ballykelly the aircraft collided with Shrove Hill, just across Lough Foyle at Greencastle. At the time of the crash the mountain was shrouded in such dense fog that the Liberator was initially located by the sound of exploding munitions by those first at the scene. The aircraft hit the hill at a height of 1,500 feet and slid along the ground a distance of 200 yards.
The Irish Army recorded the time of the crash at 1.10pm, but a local man who, as a teenager, visited the site shortly after the crash, puts the time between noon and 12.30. The 59 Squadron ORB gives no take-off time.

    Thanks Ross.

    Has been edited.

The information sent to Australia was extremely difficult to decipher and much worse using copied documents. Predominantly with surnames and initials and local place names which I have been able to confirm with the CWGC database and a little geographical knowledge.

    Cheers
