wondering if some of our experts can help me out. i work in a hospital and we have a fellow in that was talking about his Dad. said he died in 1943 in a wellington, shot down, wondering if someone can look up details for me.
Said he was wireless/upper gunner name Albert Veeck

I have the following, taken from 'RAF Bomber Command Losses' Vol.4 - W R. Chorley.

29-30 March 1943

196 Squadron Wellington X HE385 ZO-
Op Bochum

Took off from Leconfield at 1954 hrs. Shot down by a night-fighter (Lt August Geiger. III./NJG1) crashing at Zwiep (Gelderland) 2 km east of Barchen and 4 km south south east of Lochem. Holland. All rest in Laren (Barchem) General Cemetery.

The Bochum raid 29-30 March 1943

8 Oboe Mosquitos and a 'Main Force' composed of 149 Wellingtons also visited Bochum. This raid was another failure. The night was moonless and cloudy and the Mosquitos were not able to adhere to their timetable and there were long gaps in the skymarking. 12 Wellingtons lost, 8.0 per cent of the force.

actually an amazing old fellow ( has a dementia so short term memory is non exsistent, can't rememeber what he did 5 minutes ago, but his long term stuff dead on
