A khaki coloured beret!! I think the old fellas would have something to say about that!!.
The photo looks wonderful in colour, how do you know that the team colours are correct??

    All the best mate............ :)

    Hi Paul,
Yes the beret was a disappointment, however they are sorting it out this week. The photographic shop owner said that he has a machine that interrogates the different shades and Hues in Black and white pics then converts them. My observations apart from my grandfathers beret are Tom McEwans turtle neck pullover, doesn't quite look right maybe a bit bright for the 1940's? Also the area on the hockey shirts where the wings are sewn onto looks a bit pink! However the conversion does seem to bring it all to life!

It does make you wonder, if the "machine" decided the beret should be khaki then has it get the other colours right??
That said I still think the picture looks great and hats off to you mate for taking the time and effort to have it done! :D

    All the best..........

I've managed to put a name to one of Harry Marshall's friends! Whilst going through Robert Peatling's book "No Surrender at Arnhem" I came across the name William Reeve. I searched the usual sites and lo and behold I got a hit on the ParaData site. When I opened the relevant page there was this face staring at me that was VERY familiar!
A quick trawl through the pics I have and I found it was the same picture that Harry's wife had shown me a couple of years ago.
He was William Henry "Billy" Reeve of No.3 Platoon, A Coy, 2 Para. Aged 22, he was killed at Arnhem, probably somewhere near the road bridge, although this cannot be verified.
I guess Billy must have had a few copies of the picture done and sent them to various friends and family!

    All the best.............. :)

Reeve was initially posted as "missing" after Arnhem. His wife lived at 48 Brenton Street, Limehouse, London E14

As this thread has been a bit quiet I thought I'd throw this one at you! Firstly, is the guy standing next to Sgt McGregor actually Cpl Gordon Bates or is it somebody else and secondly is it the same fella in the group pic of Recce men at Wolfheze??? In the Wolfheze pic he seems to have only one stripe on the right arm of his smock so I'm not convinced??

    All the best...........:)

    Hello Wills,

I'm not quite sure how John Winchester fits into the pics of the Recce men?

A few months ago, I have the same discussion with Mark Hickman. We where also not sure it's the same fella. In the first picture he is wearing a scarf, in the second one not. But it's possible he took it of.

I've seen the picture of the three men (two Recce and a glider pilot) on Marks website and the man on the left is listed as an "unknown Trooper". If you compare the two pics below I think we can safely say that it is Sgt McGregor.

    All the best.........:)

Well Paul, for me it looks like the same fella the angle of the beret is the same thats for sure;) will have to look through a few books and see if he crops up again and the same goes as to confirming the name.
