MyUncle F/O J.V. Prosser 164532 was on this flight (Liberator) which failed to return to Akyab on 23/7/45 ,though Welsh by berth he was serving in the Canadian Airforce attached to the R.A.F. I see that F/Lt G.R.H. Elmes an Australian is listed in the Singapore memorial along with F/s.K.T. Cook,F/S H.B. Francis,F/S C.H. Hamilton ,I wonder if the other personnel are also commemorated there ;they are W/o K.H.C.Pickering,F/S J.F.D.Churchill,SGT R.K. Grainger and SGT.F.R.Marchant.I should be delighted to hear any news of my Uncle and the crew of this mission from so long ago, though I was not born until 11 years after his death we have all been very proud of his efforts and those of his crewmates.:poppy:

The A9301 of AUS435624 F/Sgt C H HAMILTON RAAF is digitised, not much help though.

The following might be of assistance:-

At 0215 hours on 23rd July, 1945, Liberator D/203 (KG-811)*, took off from Kankesanturai on an operational sortie with one other Liberator of 203 Sqdn. Both aircraft staged through China Bay, where they were refuelled before proceeding on the operation. D/203 took off from China Bay at 0500, being followed by the other aircraft C/203. The task was to attack a convoy consisting of five escort vessels, moving in a easterly direction along the northern coast of Sumatra. C/203, which was captained by F.O. F B RAU, made a successful flight to the target area, sighted the convoy at 1112 hours on 23rd July, 1945, which was stationary, approx. two miles North of Sigli, attacked it and was met with accurate machine gun fire from all vessels. During his bombing runs F.O RAU reported seeing a large fire, which he took to be a petrol fire, on a hill side some three miles inland from Sigli. Extensive searches were made without results. It is considered that the petrol fire reported three or four miles from Sigli was that of D/203.

In the crew were:-

Flt Lt C.R.H.Elmes
Flt Sgt H.B.Francis
Flt Sgt C.H.Hamilton
F/Sgt K.T.Cook
and 5 RAF members.

* Note incorrect Lib serial, should read; KG911.

My thanks to Col Bruggy for the above information.
