I have a photocopy of the minutes of the interview with (ex)SS-Obersturmbannfuhrer Jochen Peiper taken by the US Army during his trial at Dachau regarding his opinions and thoughts on the Ardennes offensive (thoughts on the OKW,the Malmedy incident, the men under his command, the plan, how would he have changed it, etc. etc.). Quite amusing in parts, looks like he had a sense of humour!

If anyone needs to know anything from this, just let me know.

Just a thing, wasn't his last rank in WWII SS Standartenführer?

Anyway, I'd love to read the interview. Peiper is maybe the only character of the WSS that catches my attention...

Here's a very good photo for you, Bayern. Hope you like it.

Possibly. I've seen mention of him being a Standartenfuhrer after January 1945, yet other sources refer to him as Obersturmbannfuhrer to the war's end. Personally, I've not been able to find a specific date for this promotion (if there ever was one).

To add to the confusion, in the interview, he is referred to as Oberst. Peiper (with the full-stop where I have placed it). This, I suppose, could be the US Army refusing to recognise the SS rank of Standartenfuhrer and replacing it with the Wehrmacht equivalent rank of Oberst. Then again, with the placing of the dot, it could also be the US Army shortening the rank of Obersturmbannfuhrer to "Oberst." .

Anyway, back to the interview. It would be impossible for me to scan and post the whole minutes as there are over 50 pages of A4 size of them. However, if there is anything specific you'd like to see if he mentions , then I'll be able to scan them.

(PS. Thanks for the photo. It's excellent.)

...and to add even more confusion, the "who's who?" type section of G.Reittlinger's The SS - Alibi of a Nation refers to him as Colonel (equivalent of both Standartenfuhrer and Oberst), but also refers to several other Lt.Colonels as the same.

Thanks a lot for the response, Bayern. ;)

I'll try to investigate and raise specific questions. Thanks anyway. :)
